I have a group of friends that regularly meet up online to play games on Wednesday nights. We've been playing various games since forever, but the once-a-week game really took off while we were all playing WoW. When we all got tired of farming for rep and dealing with guild politics, we moved over to DDO for a while. When we got tired of the poor instance designs further in the game, we finally made the move over to NWN2. Our first attempt was with B2: Keep on the Borderlands by ENoa4, which we found to be a pretty good despite some minor issue regarding a few transitions. It's been remastered for DMFI and I'm curious how it runs now.
Some time around June we started playing the Official Campaign. Most in the group had purchased NWN2 when it was released, but held off playing because they wanted to wait for it to become more stable. For most of them, this is the first time playing through it at all. There's been some frustration with the interface, but on the whole it's been good. The biggest frustration has probably been all the minor conversations that were flagged as multi-player meaning that any time someone wants to talk to a vendor the game pauses for everyone. That and the pathing issues seem to be the biggest complaints.
This Wednesday got off to a rocky start. One of the guys in the group was on a new machine, which meant we all had to apply the 1.13 hotfixes. Unfortunately, this caused one member in the group some issues. Every time he tried to join the game would crash to the desktop. Some quick forum searches revealed some other people with this issue. Somewhat frustrated, he called it a night and wished the rest of us luck.
*MINOR SPOILERS* Once it got going things were good. We wrapped up things in Port Last, then headed to the trial. We played the long way through, winning a few diplomacy checks and eventually winning the trial. Everyone had a good time voting on which options to use. From there we won our battle and took care of both Aldanon and the other old Lord's place.
All-in-all it was a good session and we were surprised that we went over our time limit. Hopefully we can get our one friend's issues resolved for next week.
